Zahara belongs to the group of villages and small towns in the Cádiz province in Andalucia called “Pueblos Blancos”, or white villages, because of the fact that most houses in the town are white. It is a small fishing village on the Costa de la Luz. As the name al-Zahar implies the streets are lined with orange trees.
Currently, there are approximately 1,600 citizens in Zahara spread out over an area of about 72 square kilometers at an elevation of 500 meters from the sea level.
