Popular Traditions
Ubrique shares similarities with other towns in the locally observed holidays.
On the first of January, New Year’s Day is celebrated. Then, from late February to April, Spain observes the Lenten season. This is a very important season in this mainly Catholic country. The Lenten season ends with the Semana Santa (“Holy Week”), in the second or third week of April. The Holy Week culminates in Easter Sunday. During this week, there are solemn processions and mass celebrations.
On the 1st of November, the locals celebrate the Todos Los Santos (“All Saints’ Day”). This is a day set aside to remember the beloved ones that passed away.
Finally, the last holiday of the year is Christmas Day, celebrated on the 25th of December.
