Even though Salobreña is not a town with all-night dance clubs and discothèques tourists can enjoy and discover the lovely nightlife with plenty of traditional Spanish fiestas, evening cultural events, live music and bars and restaurants that stay open until the early morning hours.
The tapas bars are one of Spain’s biggest traditions. There are many tapas bars and taverns such as Alhaja Tavern located on Calle Placeta and Bar Peetas are among the more popular tapas bars. There are also a variety of Spanish and international restaurants when one can try some of the tastiest dishes from Andalusia.
One of the most famous dining spots in the old town is Meson Rincon Yusuf, located in the main plaza near the museum. The restaurant has a delightful dining area amidst antiques and modern art. They offer an extensive menu ranging from local specialties like gazpacho and stuffed peppers, to "avestruz" ostrich steaks.
There is also a popular restaurant near the castle on Calle Antequera called La Traviesa. It specializes in pizzas, but it also offers plenty of other delicious dishes like grilled goat’s cheese on crispy bread with garden greens.
Salobrena does not allow itself to be left behind in terms of entertainment. It has its balance of traditional Spanish fairs and fiestas and during the summer season there are numerous concerts and shows many of which are held in the beautiful setting of the old Moorish castle.
One of the highlights of the year is the “Lucero de Alba” flamenco festival, which takes place in August in the castle where you can enjoy the soulful music, skilled guitar playing and exquisite dancing of some of the most talented practitioners of this finest of Andalusian art forms.
One of the biggest fiesta weeks takes place towards the end of June (from the 24th to the 29th) when the religious feasts of San Juan and San Pedro are observed with a good old Spanish-style knees-up, bringing together both locals and tourists regardless of age or religion. The streets become a places filled with music, dancing, parades, processions and fireworks.
