Marchena

Marchena is located sixty kilometres south of Seville in the Guadalquivir valley.

Marchena was an important Roman city and the town’s walls built first by the Romans, were expanded by the Moors and largely rebuilt in 1240 during the Reconquest under Ferdinand III.

Today, visitors can admire the Torre de Oro and the Puerta de Sevilla.

The most impressive monument of the city is the 14th century church of San Juan Bautista, which houses the Museo Zubarán dedicated to the famous painter Francisco de Zubaran. Don’t miss the religious painting called La Inmaculada.
