Málaga was originally founded by the Phoenicians as a trading colony. Later Greeks, Carthaginians and Romans settled in the port. Its prosperity came with the Moors who dominated until the 15th century, when the Catholic Monarchs conquered the region. The new harbour, the early 19th century industrial development and the tourism of the modern times converted Málaga into one of the most important Spanish cities.
Since the 70’s the trade city of Málaga and its coast transformed itself to the number one tourist area in Andalusia. One good reason is the mild climate all over the year. The native town of Pablo Picasso is famous for its celebrations, especially the Holy Week and the August Feria.
