In the center of Salobreña, in the districts of Albaycin, Brocal, La Fuente and La Loma there is a maze of white houses that are built on a huge rock. The maze can be confusing but a map is not necessary because there are two main directions: uphill or downhill.

The Castillo is situated on the top of the hill and it is a fortified Arabic castle that attract thousands of visitors every year because of the beautiful panoramic view of Salobreña and its outskirts. A story tells that in the early 15th century, the Sultan of Granada was on his deathbed and feared that his son might be tricked of his inheritance by the Sultan’s brother, Yusuf. The Sultan sent an assassin to kill Yusuf and secure once and for all the future of his son. Yusuf, however, asked for a last wish, and that was to be allowed to finish a game of chess Yusuf had been playing. The game continued for so long, that when the news of the Sultan’s death arrived, Yusuf was still playing. And then, what the Sultan feared happened - Yusuf was proclaimed in place of his son. Below the castle is a parish church, distinguished by a Moorish style arch.

Salobreña also has a nice wide beach that is split in two by a rock. The beach has few beach bars that are very popular eating places for both locals and tourists.
