Places of Interest
Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña
The ermita de la Virgen de la Peña (Virgin of the Rock hermitage) is the place where the patron saint is honoured and therefore it is a centre of devotion in the village. On the hermitage’s boulevard there are very nice gardens that open onto a viewing point that commands a very wide view of a large part of the Costa del Sol.
Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción
The iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción (Inmaculada Concepción church) dates back to the sixteenth century. It was built on a hill where first stood a castle and later a mosque. The interior is divided into three naves. In the opinion of some writers the square tower well may be from the ancient fortress.
Plaza de Toros
The Plaza de Toros (Bullring) was built in 1900 and breaks with all the archaeological customs that apply in this type of construction. It is located in the area of La Muralla and has an oval ring and quadrangular exterior. At the bulring, one can also find the bulfighting museum that is dedicated to the history of bullfighting.
Casa Museo
The Casa Museo (House Museum) houses agricultural equipment and traditional tools that take the visitor back to what was until recent times the lifestyle of the area.
El Puerto
One of the most interesting buildings in Mijas is the hermitage of El Puerto which can be seen everywhere in the village.
