In 1961, Roman baths were discovered. Now they are completely renovated from their original state and they can be visited at Torreblanca. Nearby one also discovered the ruins of a Roman villa containing two sculptures, one of which is the well known "Venus of Fuengirola" exhibited in the town's museum.
The Arab castle of Sohail is a Moorish castle on the top of a hill next to the beach and certainly is one of the highlights of Fuengirola's cultural and historical scene. The castle was renovated in 2000 and since that moment the Sohail castle has hosted festivals and concerts throughout the summer.
While spending your hollidays in Fuengirola, you can visit one of the modern zoos of the world, the Zoologico de Fuengirola (“Fuengirola Zoo”). It specializes in breeding endangered species and chimpanzee research. The Zoologico is modeled after a lush tropical forest, showcasing endangered species in their natural setting. Definitely not your typical everyday zoo, the Zoologico has transformed from an old fashioned zoo cramped with cages and animals into an impressive zoo-themepark. One of the best attractions of the zoo is the “moonlight visit.” This takes place at night, in the July and August. Artificial moonlight is used on the zoo area and visitors are treated to views of the more nocturnally active species in the zoo.
