Places of Interest

There are two churches found in the city and these are the Capilla de Nuestra Señora de Europa, and the Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de la Palma. The Museo Municipal is also worthy of a visit.

The center square located at the top of the town called the Plaza Alta offers a great view of the surrounding areas. And then there’s the beautiful San Isidro Quarter, with its narrow streets lined by colorful flowers from the variety of street side white houses typical of Andalusia. Also full of flowers is the Maria Cristina Park which is where most cultural festivities are held.

Within the city of Algeciras, travelers can check out several historical monuments like the Mercado de Abastos and the Barrio de San Isidro.

Off the coast of Algeciras, one can see the Rock of Gibraltar as well as the African coast. There are also the beaches where many water sports are available and competitions are held especially for underwater diving and sailing. Or one can just go fishing, if it is to his liking. These activities can be done in the lovely beaches of El Rinconcillo, La Concha, Getares and Cala Arena. Under the waters of the bay bearing the same name, the remains of the ancient Roman city called Carteia can be found which traveling divers can also look into.
