In more recent years Garrucha is assuming the role of a popular tourist destination. This is mainly a fishing town that managed to keep its original charm. It is also much known for its famous quality red prawns fished only in the waters around this city. The fishing industry is the main source of income in this city and therefore there are three separated ports, one for commercial ships, another one for leisure trips and one known as the sport port.
Besides the luxurious and splendid choice of seafood Garrucha is also known for its beautiful sandy beaches and very pleasant weather. There are beautiful Garrucha beaches running for several kilometers along Costa Almeria but the beach in front of the center of the city if the one that is most beautiful and also the one that complies with the international regulations for beach safety and maintenance. This beach has been awarded with the prestigious Blue Flag. There are more newly developed beaches spreading on approximately eight kilometers.
