Estepa

It’s a town located 24km east of Osuna which is famous for the biscuits known as polvorones and mantecados made by bakers each Christmas.

In the 18th century, the Moorish took the town and renamed it Istabba.The famous poet Al Zawwali lived here before returning to Marrakech in 1220 shortly before his death.

Estepa was taken in 1241 during the Reconquest, by King Fernando III, "The Saint".

In the early 19th century, the hills around Estepa were occupied by bandits. Today the inhabitants still think the mountains are haunted by the ghosts of thoses brutal men.
