This town located in the province of Huelva is famous for its annual “romería”, the Rocío Pilgrimage at Pentecost.
The Virgen Del Rocío has been celebrated in this isolated site for over 800 years and up to one million people converge each year to the marshes near the mouth of the Guadalquivir River to sing, eat, dance and pray homage to the Virgen del Rocío.
In 2007 the procession will take place on May 28th. Usually the pilgrims come on horseback or in flowering decorated covered wagons from all over Spain, that’s why the pilgrimage to Rocío is considered as the most colourful, emotive and liveliest spanish religious festival.
