Carmona is a picturesque small town located 43km from Seville, built on a ridge overlooking the central plain of Andalusia.
As Sevilla, Carmona was an important Roman city, in the time of Julius Caesar, then Moors surrounded it with a wall and ornamented it with fountains and palaces.
The citadel of Carmona, now in ruins, was formerly the principal fortress of Pedro of Castile (1350 - 1369). This palace was destroyed by an earthquake in 1504.
Visitor can also admire others attractions like the tower of the church of San Pedro which is an imitation of the Giralda at Seville and the Gothic church of Santa Maria built over the former main mosque, whose elegant patio is retained.
The annual fair, which is held in April, affords good opportunity of observing the costumes and customs of southern Spain.
