Benalmádena is a picturesque Andalusian town that has a long history. It was occupied by Phoenician, Carthaginian, Visigoth, Arab and Roman. Nowadays the town has grown and is totally devoted to the tourist world. It is very popular amongst tourists, especially British ones. Benalmádena is comprised of three distinct areas: Arroyo de la Miel, Benalm Costa, a first rate tourist resort, and Benalm pueblo in the mountains. Arroyo de la Miel is the busy commercial town centre that separates the village on the hill from the sea front. Benalm Costa is the coastal area with lots of hotels and beaches. The old village of Benalm Pueblo on the contrary has managed to maintain more traditional and quieter amidst the massive amounts of tourist accommodation that surround it.
