On a hilltop 6km from Ubeda is located the town of Baeza. It’s a smaller and quieter town than Ubeda mostly because its population, that is 15,000.
Both Baeza and Ubeda are the only two towns whose monuments are protected by UNSECO.
Baeza was, just like most of the towns in this province, affected by the many civilizations that passed throughout the history in this region. Baeza was a very important town in the Roman times and later also an important Moorish town - a time when Baeza prospered the most.
During the 16th century with the expansion of textile industry Baeza same like Ubeda flourished economically. A university was founded around this time and remained opened until the 19th century - the year 1824.
